Role Overview
We are looking for a General Counsel to join this leading European Growth Equity Firm, ideally bringing approximately 8–10 years of relevant experience gained across both a reputable law firm and an in-house legal function. The Firm is, however, open to considering candidates with somewhat more or less experience where the overall profile, calibre and potential fit with the role are compelling.
The position is based in Stockholm, with a broad international remit and close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders across the Firm’s offices.
This is a broad and highly visible legal role, combining strategic responsibility with a strong hands-on element. The successful candidate will be expected to act as a trusted adviser to senior management and the wider business, providing pragmatic, commercially minded legal advice across a range of matters.
The role reports to the CFO.
What Good Looks Like
The ideal candidate will be someone who can operate as a true business partner, rather than simply as a legal specialist.
They will combine strong technical legal expertise with commercial instinct, sound judgement and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders. They will be equally comfortable discussing strategic matters with management and rolling up their sleeves to solve a practical problem.
The person should bring a “can-do” attitude, whilst understanding when legal risk is too significant to accept.
Above all, they should share the Firm’s philosophy of cutting through complexity, focusing on what matters and finding practical solutions.
Must-Have Requirements
Approximately 8–10 years of relevant legal experience, ideally gained from both a leading/reputable law firm and an in-house environment.
Strong experience in M&A, company law and commercial agreements.
Demonstrated ability to advise senior management and act as a trusted legal adviser to the business.
Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of how to balance legal considerations with business objectives.
The confidence and integrity to challenge the business and, when necessary, to say “stop”.
Comfortable working across both strategic and operational matters.
Able to move seamlessly between providing high-level strategic advice and being hands-on in resolving day-to-day legal issues.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide clear, pragmatic and actionable advice.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent communication skills in both Swedish and English, with the ability to speak and write fluently in both languages.
